The Oscar-winning actress turned heads at the world premiere, joined by co-stars Hugh Grant and others on the red carpet.
Olivia Colman surprised fans with a striking blonde hairstyle at the world premiere of Wonka in London. The Academy Award-winning actress, who plays Mrs. Scrubbit in the film, graced the red carpet at the Royal Festival Hall alongside her husband, Ed Sinclair. The couple posed for photos as Colman donned a dramatic black dress with a sheer cape, while also engaging with fans, snapping selfies on the evening.
In contrast, just a day before the premiere, Colman had been photographed in a green dress, still sporting her natural brunette locks. Her blonde transformation isn’t entirely new, as she previously stepped onto the Oscars red carpet in 2020 with a blonde crop.
Wonka, the latest adaptation of Roald Dahl’s beloved Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, stars Timothée Chalamet as the iconic Willy Wonka. Chalamet made a bold entrance at the London event, going bare-chested beneath a velvet-look suit and a short necklace.
The film, which brings Dahl’s whimsical world to life, tells the story of the eccentric chocolate factory owner and features the peculiar orange Oompa-Loompas. The film’s promotional push gained momentum following the resolution of the US actors’ strike, which ended after 118 days earlier this month, allowing stars to hit the red carpet once again.
Several other notable stars from the film attended the premiere, including Matthew Baynton, who plays Fickelgruber, looking sharp in a navy and black suit. Simon Farnaby, a former Horrible Histories actor, stood out in a blue velvet jacket with a contrasting black collar. Farnaby, who co-wrote the screenplay with Paddington director Paul King, also joined the festivities.
Comedian and actor Matt Lucas, who plays Prodnose, was another standout in a navy suit and white shirt, while Rowan Atkinson, best known for his role as Mr. Bean, also made an appearance, sporting a striped navy suit as he plays a priest in the film.
Other familiar faces on the red carpet included Imelda Staunton, star of The Crown, and Downton Abbey’s Jim Carter, both dressed in sophisticated attire. Hugh Grant, who portrays a tiny Oompa-Loompa, was seen in a classic black suit and tie. Sally Hawkins, who takes on the role of Willy Wonka’s mother, also graced the event.
Wonka will be released in cinemas on December 8.
