England’s all-time top scorer reflects on a memorable 100th cap and suggests a shift in position as he grows older.
Harry Kane has sparked speculation about a potential future position change, suggesting he could transition into a midfield role later in his career. The England captain, who celebrated his 100th international appearance with two goals in a 2-0 victory over Finland at Wembley, hinted at the possibility of playing in a deeper role as he ages.
The Bayern Munich striker’s brace in the second half marked another milestone in his remarkable England journey, taking his record goalscoring tally to 68. Kane expressed pride in his performance, especially in front of his family, who attended the match to witness the special occasion. He reflected on the importance of his loved ones, noting that he wouldn’t have reached such milestones without their support. “It was a proud night for me and the family,” Kane said, recounting the special memories from the match, even though his son had a bit of a meltdown beforehand.
Despite his continued success as a striker, the 31-year-old acknowledged the need to adapt as his career progresses. Kane revealed that, as he grows older, he might explore different roles on the pitch, including potentially playing as a No10 or even deeper in midfield. “I feel I could play as No9 or No10, even areas in midfield,” he said. “It depends on the manager I’m playing with. Later in my career, a manager might want to use me deeper to utilise my passing to hurt teams.”
While Kane’s goal-scoring abilities remain a key focus, he hinted that his creativity and passing skills might become more central to his role in the future. For now, however, the striker is committed to continuing to score goals, stating, “I want to keep scoring the goals I need to score to play as a No9.”
