Mohammad Abu Msbeh shares the terrifying reality of paramedics working under fire as the Israel-Hamas conflict intensifies.
Mohammad Abu Msbeh, the director of ambulance and emergency services in Gaza, has vividly described the immense dangers faced by first responders as they continue their life-saving work amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas war. In a video shared by the Palestine Red Crescent Society, Mr. Abu Msbeh recounted a chilling incident when gunfire erupted around an ambulance responding to casualties on the streets of Gaza. He explained that gunfire came from multiple directions, hitting both a paramedic’s chest and the side of the ambulance. Miraculously, the bullets did not strike the oxygen cylinders, which could have resulted in a catastrophic explosion. Despite sustaining injuries themselves, paramedics and injured drivers continued to assist each other, managing to get to safety and tend to the wounded under increasingly dangerous conditions. The story highlights the perilous environment in which healthcare workers are risking their lives to provide care, with many facing direct threats while trying to save others.
