The Veteran Goalkeeper is Close to Finalising Permanent Transfer to MLS After 11 Years at Spurs
Hugo Lloris is reportedly in advanced discussions to leave Tottenham Hotspur for a permanent move to Major League Soccer (MLS) side Los Angeles FC. The move would mark the end of his impressive 11-year tenure at the Premier League club.
Lloris, whose contract expires at the end of the season, has seen his role diminished under manager Ange Postecoglou, with the Australian coach opting for summer signing Guglielmo Vicario as his first-choice goalkeeper. Veteran Fraser Forster has been the backup, leaving Lloris on the outskirts of the squad. As it stands, Lloris’ final match for Spurs could be the heavy 6-1 defeat at Newcastle in April, which came under former interim boss Cristian Stellini.
The 37-year-old Frenchman had opportunities to depart Spurs in the summer, with interest from Saudi Arabia, Italian club Lazio, and his former team, Nice. However, he chose to stay. Lloris, who captained France to their 2018 World Cup victory, has accumulated nearly 450 appearances for Spurs since joining the club. He served as club captain from 2015 until Postecoglou made the decision to hand the armband to Heung-min Son ahead of this season.
Now, with the prospect of a fresh start in MLS, Lloris appears ready to leave Tottenham after a long and storied career at the North London club.
