The royal couple share heartfelt thanks for the outgoing New Zealand prime minister’s support.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have expressed their gratitude to Jacinda Ardern, the outgoing Prime Minister of New Zealand, for her longstanding support and friendship, particularly following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

In a heartfelt message shared on Twitter, William and Kate thanked Ardern for her unwavering leadership, highlighting the significant comfort her support provided during a challenging time. “Thank you @jacindaardern for your friendship, leadership and support over the years, especially at the time of my grandmother’s passing,” they wrote on their Kensington Royal account.

The royal couple also extended their warmest wishes to Ardern’s partner, Clarke Gayford, and their four-year-old daughter, Neve, acknowledging the personal connections they had formed. “Sending you, Clarke and Neve our best wishes. W & C,” they added.

Jacinda Ardern, who attended the Queen’s funeral at Westminster Abbey in September, had a strong bond with the British royal family. In July 2022, she visited Kensington Palace for a private meeting with William, marking her first trip to the UK since the pandemic. Additionally, William had visited New Zealand in 2019 to pay tribute to the victims of the Christchurch terrorist attack, which left 50 people dead.

Ardern, who recently announced her resignation, stated that she no longer had the energy to continue in the demanding role. Following her decision, the New Zealand Labour Party unanimously chose Chris Hipkins to succeed her as Prime Minister, and he will be sworn in later this week.

The royal couple’s message was a touching tribute to the relationship between the royal family and the outgoing New Zealand leader.
